STRR Road

STRR road is known as Satellite Town Ring Road and the Peripheral Ring Road. It is a 288 km stretch that connects twelve satellite towns in the city. The STRR construction is moving quickly, passing all the difficulties, and it will be completed by March 2024.

It gets developed by the National Highway Authority at a big investment of Rs 17000 crores. It will connect 12 important towns around the city. The total project cost of the STRR road is about Rs 17,000 crore, and the project length is 288 km, of which 243 km is in Karnataka state and 45 km is in Tamil Nadu.
According to the design, the Right of Way is 9 meters and follows the Hybrid Annuity Model.
The design will support 100 km/hr, and there will be 4 to 6 lanes on this road, and it is all set to ease the traffic in the city.

Currently, the building of STRR road is at a swift pace, far ahead of the estimated schedule. The project got approved in 2005 and did not see much progress. The construction gained speed after the Central government declared funding.

The road will offer another route for heavy-duty vehicles to pass the city, easing the congested areas. The project is in 3 parallel phases. It involves the repositioning of the NH-207 and the building of NH-948A. The road will also pass across the Bannerghatta National Park.

Louis Berger Group and KITKO prepared the detailed STRR road Project Report. The project's purchase started in 2018 with 1009.8 hectares in Karnataka state and 340 hectares in Tamil Nadu. The project will see the completion of its initial phase by 2023. As a result, towns close to the city will be connected with Tamil Nadu’s Hosur region.

The first phase of the project will get completed by next year. Out of three packages on NH 648, work on two packages measuring 80 km is in progress and should get completed by 2023. The STRR road project aims to provide a fast bypass route to all the people and increase the speed of freight movement in the city. The road will pass through BNP’s eco-sensitive zone from 95.52 to 138.00 km, including an 8 km elevated highway through its core.

The Outer Ring Road cannot take the vehicular density, and the average density is double at junctions like Hebbal and KR Puram. All traffic experts suggest cities need as many ring roads as possible to ease traffic issues. The city is outwardly grown, and it needs more roads.
